My childhood revolved around sports. It didn’t matter what sport it was, my neighbors and I were playing it. Being active was, and still is, my favorite hobby. For as long as I can remember I’ve also been right under 6ft so that has certainly helped in my athletic endeavors. except dance, that one I never mastered. I played volleyball at Mississippi State and was proud to make the All SEC team my senior year. Once I graduated, I ran a marathon and quickly realized that wasn’t the sport for me and started weight training which I fell in love with. There is nothing better than being able to challenge yourself physically and mentally everyday and who doesn’t love building muscle?!

My first year of college volleyball I hardly played and I was quick to make excuses and place the blame on everyone but myself. When I would call home upset after games I hadn’t played in, my dad would ask “are you sure you are doing everything in your control” and I’d lie and again blame everything else. At some point I got tired of lying to myself and started holding myself accountable. Running on off days became my thing. Not only did it get me in the best shape to play the sport I loved but it also was the one time a week it was just me and my thoughts. Whether I was setting goals for the week, running through my to do list for the day or just enjoying the run it made me fall in love with fitness and what it can do for your mindset.
I genuinely love encouraging others to be active! There are so many benefits to getting a good workout in and it affects all areas of your life. And you are stronger than you think you are!
